TL-0030(ME) - Shelf Life/Storage and Handling of GCP Applied Technologies Waterproofing and Air Barrier Products Technical Letter
The shelf life of GCP Applied Technologies (“GCP”) membranes and liquids for structural waterproofing and air barriers (BITUTHENE® Membrane PREPRUFE® Membrane, branded products) is highly dependent on the conditions under which these products are stored.
Storage Temperature
Membranes and Liquids: GCP Sheet Membranes (including, but not limited to, all PREPRUFE® Membranes, BITUTHENE®, and PERM-A-BARRIER® Membranes) and Fluid Applied membranes, (including but not limited to all PERM-A-BARRIER® Fluid Applied Membranes) should be stored in their original, unopened packaging at ambient temperatures between 40°–90°F (5°–32°C). During installation these products may be stored on jobsites, in the shade where ambient temperatures may temporarily exceed 90°F (32°C)
It is critical that water-based fluid applied membranes are not subject to freezing and/or freeze-thaw cycling.
- Primers and Conditioners (including, but not limited to, BITUTHENE® Primer) should be stored in their original, unopened packaging at ambient temperatures between 40°–90°F (5°–32°C). During installation these products may be stored on jobsites, in the shade where ambient temperatures may temporarily exceed 90°F (32°C). Freezing and Freeze-thaw cycling must be prevented to avoid product instability and damage to the packaging caused by the expansion of the product during freezing. All GCP primers and conditioners .
- Ancillary Products (including, but not limited to, BITUTHENE® Liquid Membrane, BITUTHENE® Mastic, PREPRUFE® Tape, ADCOR® Hydrophilic Waterstop and ADCOR® Adhesive), should be stored in their original, unopened packaging at ambient temperatures between 40°–90°F (5°–32°C). During installaion these products may be stored on jobites, in the shade where ambient temperatures may temporarily exceed 90°F (32°C) For all water based fluid applied products, freezing and freeze-thaw cycling must be prevented to avoid product instability and damage to the packaging caused by the expansion of the product during freezing.
Shelf Life
- Sheet Membranes (including, but not limited to, PREPRUFE® Membrane, BITUTHENE® Membrane, and PERM-A-BARRIER® Membranes) are subject to a standard shelf life of one year from the date of manufacture. Where product exceeds the 1 year shelf life contact your local GCP Representative or GCP Technical service for further guidance.
- Liquid/Fluid Applied Membranes (including, but not limited to PERM-A-BARRIER® Fluid Applied Membranes) are subject to a shelf life of 9 months from the date of manufacture. Where product exceeds the 9 month shelf life contact your local GCP representative or GCP Technical service for further guidance.
- Primers and Conditioners (including, but not limited to, BITUTHENE® Primer) are subject to a shelf life of 2 years from the date of manufacture by GCP. Where product exceeds the 24 month shelf life contact your local GCP representative or GCP Technical service for further guidance.
- Ancillary Products (including, but not limited to, BITUTHENE® Liquid Membrane, BITUTHENE® Mastic, PREPRUFE® Detail Tape, ADCOR® Hydrophilic Water stop and ADCOR® Adhesive). Ancillary products are subject to a shelf life of one year from the date of manufacture by GCP. Where product exceeds the 1 year shelf life contact your local GCP representative or GCP Technical service for further guidance.
