MORTARD® 79/5
Mortar Retarder
Product Description
MORTARD® 79/5 is a liquid mortar retarder, designed for use in ready-mixed mortar. It has been specifically developed for cement / lime / sand mortars but is equally effective in cement / sand only mortars.
MORTARD® 79/5 is formulated from carefully selected raw materials and is manufactured under controlled conditions to give a consistent product. It is based on a combination of polyhydroxy monomeric and polymeric materials blended to produce a synergistic retardation effect. MORTARD® 79/5 meets the requirements of BS 4887 Part 2.

Compatibility with Cements
MORTARD® 79/5 can be used with all types or Portland cement. For use with special cements we recommend that you consult GCP Applied Technologies.
Compatibility with other Admixtures
MORTARD® 79/5 should not be premixed under any circumstances with other admixtures. While some admixtures can be usefully combined within the same mix the performance of this product may well be affected by the presence of other chemicals and we recommend that GCP be contacted for advice in all such circumstances.
Addition Rates
Range: 1000 ml–3000 ml per 100 kg cement
The precise quantity of MORTARD® 79/5 required is best determined by on site evaluations. This is necessary to ascertain the effect of variables such as cement and fine aggregate types, mixer, length of mixing, ambient temperature, etc.
MORTARD® 79/5 is supplied ready for use. It should be added to the mortar mixture during the mixing process, at the same time as the water or fine aggregates. It should not be added directly to the cement. No extension of normal mixing time is necessary
Severe overdosing of MORTARD® 79/5 will result in excess retardation, which will manifest itself in prolonged “greenness” and slow development of intrinsic strength of the mortar. The bonding of the mortar to brick / block work may be adversely affected as the mortar may become desiccated prior to its set
Dispensing
It is preferable that liquid admixtures for concrete should be introduced into a mixer by means of automatic dispensing equipment. A range of equipment is available, and advice on supply and fitting is available on request.
Health and Safety
